Notebook Battery Recharge Failure Varies Greatly Between ManufacturersToday, while reinstalling the operating system on my wife's Acer notebook computer, I walked out of the room to do some chores. When I came back, the notebook was dead. That's when I realized that it wasn't plugged in and was running on batteries the entire time. Luckily, the reinstall had successfully completed while on batteries. And I thought to myself, "man, the battery charge still holds up quite well on this notebook." That's not something I could say about my other notebooks. I have quite a few different notebooks in my household. Most of them have batteries that has long failed and will not hold any charge. And then it occurs to me that the name brand notebooks that I own all have crappy batteries. The two lesser known brand notebooks that I have for a while, still have good battery that holds charge quite well. Could this be a manufacturer conspiracy to get us to buy new batteries? The following is a list of notebooks that I have owned since bringing them home from the store. I've shown the current status of the battery and approximately when they've died. I did not list any notebooks that I bought used, because I obviously don't know how their batteries were conditioned. 1. Sony VAIO SuperSlim PCG-505TS - Batteries dead after a few months. Same occurred after personally rebuilding the batteries. 2. Averatec 3120V - Notebook aproximately five years old. Battery is still in good condition and holds charge. 3. HP Pavilion dv1227us - Batteries dead after a year of use. 4. Acer Aspire 3004WLMi - Three years old notebook. Battery is still in good condition. 5. HP Pavilion dv6119us - New notebook that I haven't had over a year. Can't really comment other than that the battery is still fairly good. Chieh Cheng
