Max'ing Out Memory on the Intermec Norand Pen*Key 6642The Intermec Norand Pen*Key 6642 tablet has 32 MB of built-in memory. It also comes with a 64 MB memory module, which brings it up to 96 MB of RAM. The 64 MB memory module can be replaced with a 128 MB version to bring the tablet PC up to a total of 160 MB of RAM. It runs Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition, which doesn't seem to use that much memory at all. But I figure that max'ing out the memory now is a good idea. Especially when there is a chance that Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition can be installed on it. After taking the Intermec Norand Pen*Key 6642 apart (see "Inside the Intermec Norand 6642" article in the TrackBack below), I realized that it uses 144-pin notebook PC100 RAM. So I ordered an used 128 MB module of eBay. After removing the back tablet panel, unclip the original RAM module on both sides. It will spring upward. Remove the original RAM module. Then slide the larger RAM module diagonal into the slot. Once it's all the way in, press it downward so that it clips on both side. Now you can reassemble the tablet case. After powering up the computer, you'll see that there are a total of 160 MB of RAM installed. Chieh Cheng
