Keyboard Skin is a Necessity on a Children NetbookIn my "Awaiting for My XO" article, I mentioned that the OLPC XO has a water-resistant membrane keyboard, which is perfect for kids who might dump juice on their computer. (I learned the hard way with my daughter dumping juice on my brand new netbook two years ago.) But it's not always possible to buy a OLPC XO on any given day. When I was ready to buy a computer for my one year old son, OLPC's Buy One Get One program wasn't running. I had to settle for a more powerful Acer netbook for my son. Its keyboard is not water-proof. Luckily, I found keyboard skins for netbooks on eBay. In fact, the keyboard skin for the Acer netbook was only $3.50, including shipping from Hong Kong. Shipping took two weeks, but it arrived as promised. The keyboard skin matches the netbook keyboard perfectly and it protects the keyboard from spills and dirt. Only problem now is that my son has a tendency to remove and play with the keyboard skin. And has to be taught to leave it alone. My two years old daughter has already learned to keep the keyboard skin in place. Chieh Cheng
