Gateway LT1001GAlmost every computer company has entered or is trying to enter into the netbook world market. As people are beginning to travel more frequently, the need for portable computers is increasing. The netbook frenzy has taken over several top computer companies, so it was only a matter of time before the Gateway cows jumped on the bandwagon. Gateway wanted a piece of the netbook action and came up with the Gateway LT1001G in order to capitalize in the netbook craze. Gateway describes the Gateway LT1001G as being super-lightweight, and ultra-portable. The computer is optimized for internet access and provides easy mobility for netbook users on the run. The Gateway LT1001G is incredibly close to the Acer Aspire One, the only thing that differentiates the two computers is that the Gateway LT1001G features a glossy black lid with a silver Gateway logo on it and the palm rest on the Gateway is slightly softer. Gateway was acquired by Acer so it only seems logical that the traits from Acer would start to influence the Gateway design. The Gateway LT1001G is an attractive netbook that is sleek and modern. The designers at Gateway were really attempting to cater to the internet junkies by making the Gateway LT1001G a WiFi certified netbook. The netbook has fast ethernet and will keep up to speed with internet connections during travel. The internal 3G mobile broadband card found in the Gateway LT1001G is a dream for web-browsers who want lightening speed when loading pages. The keyboard measures 89% of a full size desktop, but a soft smooth material for the wrists makes typing on the Gateway LT1001G a manageable feat. Gateway LT1001G comes with a 3-Cell or 6-Cell battery pack. Users can determine how often they plan to use their computer while on the go and choose their battery life based on that assessment. The Gateway LT1001G has everything that other modern netbooks have and a few things that can not be found on other models, like a 3G modem. The display on the Gateway LT1001G is 8.9-inches which falls in the average range when compared to other netbooks on the market. The netbook has a 1.6GHz processor, a 160GB hard drive, 1GB of memory, and Intel GMA 950 integrated graphics. Other features are the megapixel camera, integrated speakers, microphone and WiFi 802.11. There is a one year limited parts and labor warranty on the Gateway LT1001G. Gateway LT1001G is equipped with some pretty cool productivity software; Microsoft Works 9.0, Adobe Reader 9.0, and a sixty day complimentary trial of Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007 comes along with the package. Even though the netbook comes with good specs and add-on packages, the Gateway LT1001G also has its cons, for example, the glare that comes off the glossy screen can become irritating to some users. Customer service from Gateway has also been an issue and complaints have been many. The Gateway LT1001G costs $688. Kia
