Enabling loopback on Microsoft Wireless Base Station MN-500I have been using the Microsoft MN-500 as the router between my server and the Internet. Although this broadband has been pretty robust ever since I installed version 1.08 firmware, it had never been able to provide loop-back connection. Loop-back allows a computer on the Local Area Network (LAN) to connect to another computer on the LAN through the Wide Area Network (WAN), also known as the Internet. How is this helpful? Well, for the past two years, I have been unable to access my own web-server through the same URL that everyone else can. While developing this web-site, I decided that enough is enough! After doing some research, I found that Microsoft had added the loopback feature in the version 1.09.008 firmware a year ago. I managed to find the MN-500 information here: Link The current firmware update is version 1.11.017 (my MN-500 book code version is 1.06). After installing the loopback seems to be work, as I am testing it by typing up this article. The loopback does seem to be pretty slow though. I hope the performance will improve. Maybe it is caused by this outdate Windows 98 notebook that I am currently using. I will try it again with my Windows XP computer later. Chieh Cheng Ok, I am testing the MN-500 loop-back feature on my Windows XP laptop computer . . . and it is really fast! So it must be my old Windows 98 machine that is causing the slow down, rather than the broadband router. Chieh Cheng
