disable lid sleep functionIs there a way to disable the lid from putting the computer to sleep in Mac OS X? Chieh Cheng yes. install windows. charlie Haha...charlie, you still got it! sarcast it might be a BIOS option... gnowk That probably my number 1 gripe on the mac. I've asked many people before... no on has the answer. A lot of people at yahoo ended up carrying their laptops open. Or on the side with their arm between the lid and the base. CCC it's darwin. can't you just write a script to kill the daemon that handles the sleep function and then have it reenabled? and have those linked to a desktop icon or something? charlie Nope. No BIOS option. It's worth looking into the sleep daemon mechanism. But I suspect the code is in the non-open source section of Darwin. After all, I had to install my own SleepWatcher daemon just to hook into the the sleep and wake trigger. 've been tempted to wipe it and install Windows, several times in the past week. Mac OS X is growing more and more weary on me. If it's not for the potential to learn and write more stuff about it, it'd be gone. Steve Jobs has bad genes. You guys should quote me. Chieh Cheng you guys should pay me :) gnowk That's awesome. I'm gonna have to try it. Hopefully it won't conflict with SleepWatcher. Chieh Cheng Ok, I downloaded InsomniaX 1.3.3. It works when I enable it. However, it works so well that it even blocks the system from going into sleep mode when I press Fn-F12 (sleep function). The only way I can put the netbook into sleep mode is if I disable InsomniaX. So, right now, there is a lot of manual enabling and disabling going on. I guess it's better than nothing right now. I wish there is a way to only disable the lid from putting the notebook into sleep, while I can manually put the notebook into sleep mode at will. Chieh Cheng
