Has Apple Turned Evil?Apple disable OS functionality while presenting advertisement? That's exactly what Steve Jobs and his colleagues has patented at apple. Just today, I came across an article called "Weekly Walk of Shame: Apple". In this article, the following "technology" patent is presented: As another example, the system can provide constant or repeated monitoring of whether the system presents the advertisement(s) as scheduled. If non-presentation is detected, the system can invoke one or more enforcement routines to seek compliance with the advertisement presentation schedule. Such enforcement routines can include, but are not limited to, disabling the system in whole or in part, reporting the issue to a responsible party, invoking an alternative way of presenting the advertisement (such as by audio when visual presentation is impeded), or by registering the non-compliance in a log that can later be used in a follow-up process. This reminds me of the crippleware that litter the entire Internet today. When you download it, some of its functionality are crippled until you pay. But at least you can pay and get full functionality. So what is Apple thinking? It already sold you an OS and now they want to impede its functionality while showing you ads? Now if they give the OS away for free, then that is one thing. But you must consider that, currently, Apple sold you an entire hardware device that included the OS. So you already paid for it. Does Apple expect you to pay it again to regain full functionality. Surely, this "technology" benefits the corporate/big brother world, and does not benefit any common man. But there is one good thing that comes out of Apple patenting this "technology". It means for 15 years, no other companies can bring this particular evil to the consumer market and have you and I pay for it. Chieh Cheng
