Gimp Screenshot Function Doesn't Work in Mac OS XGimp has been my trusted free software application to create screen shots on Linux and Windows. So when I started using Mac OS X, I naturally downloaded Gimp straight away. But after trying to capture the screen using it in Mac OS X, I realized that the Mac OS X port of Gimp is really just a partial port of the X11 version. Therefore, it was unable to capture the Mac OS X's graphical user interface. Instead, I got a black image. Good news is that Mac OS X has built-in screen capture function. So you don't need any third-party application to do it. There are several ways to capture the screen. One of the two ways that I feel is most useful is the Command-Shift-3 combination that captures the entire screen. The other combination is Command-Shift-4, which lets you capture an area of the screen. Both methods puts a PNG file on your desktop. There seems to be other combination to capture the screen. But I haven't learned them. Feel free to share those methods with us. Chieh Cheng In newer versions of macOS, GIMP is capable of taking screenshots directly (File -> Create -> Screenshot...) without needing to use the OS built-in utility, but it can sometimes be thwarted by OS permissions.
