EXT3 Mounting Problem with fuse-ext2

EXT3 Mounting Problem with fuse-ext2

My fire-wire ext3 mounts fine read/write on OS-X 10.6.6. However, if I:
1. unmount:
diskutil unmount /dev/disk3s1
2. create a mount point:
mkdir -p /Volumes/Writable
3. mount it read/write:
fuse-ext2 -o rw+ /dev/disk3s1 /Volumes/Writable)
I get this error:
~/Documents/workspace $fuse-ext2 -o rw+ /dev/disk3s1 /Volumes/Writable

~/Documents/workspace $mount_fusefs: failed to mount /Volumes/Writable@/dev/fuse1: Socket is not connected

Is there a step I am missing?
