Troubleshooting: Xlib: unexpected connection setup reply from server, type 83.My remote X display worked one minute and the next minute, I got an error message when I tried to start a X application: Xlib: unexpected connection setup reply from server, type 83. X11 forwarding is enabled in PuTTY. And I'm running Xming on Windows. What could be the problem? Chieh Cheng I think the following error messages in "Xming.0.log" has something to do with the problem: winMultiWindowXMsgProc - DISPLAY=127.0.0.1:0.0 I'm running Windows 7. I don't understand why Xming couldn't open the display on Windows 7. Chieh Cheng It has something to do with my WinSCP connection to my remote computer; it causes this error message when I start a X application. After closing the connection, the X forwarding works fine again. For this particular WinSCP connection, I setup SSH tunnel (within WinSCP). Maybe it has something to do with that, but I don't know see how it would have anything to do with it. Chieh Cheng I confirmed it has something to do with the SSH tunnel. I used WinSCP to connect to another remote host that doesn't require the SSH tunnel. Then I started a X application on that remote server and it didn't have any problems. Chieh Cheng Wow, man. You helped me a lot with this problem. Many thanks! susmijor
