Get Chrome OS to Run on Older Computers?About five months ago, I was excited about Presto. It's an operating system for netbooks and older computers. It boots up really fast and provides web-based functionality that will satisfy most people. But soon after trying it, I was disappointed, because it wouldn't run on my 300 MHz Pentium II computer, even though it was advertised to run on older computer. My Sony SuperSlim PCG-505 series of notebooks are the same size as a netbook and much slimmer. They are great candidates to run slim-down web operating systems. But Presto won't run on them. On the other hand Windows XP runs decently on a 233 MHz computer as I written elsewhere on this site. Will Chrome OS save the day? It's an open-source operating system that anyone can make modification to the operating system and build it for any hardware components. So will the Chrome OS see the light of day on older computers like the 233 MHz and 300 MHz Pentium II laptops? I sure hope so. Chieh Cheng Let me add the OLPC XO to this list of slower laptops. As I talk to my friend, he mentioned that the ability to use this web-based OS on the OLPC XO is a huge plus. But does the OLPC XO read 4 GB SDHC Card? And will it boot the Chronium OS off this memory card? We'll see. Chieh Cheng The answer seems to be "yes" for both questions based on these web pages: http://en.forum.laptop.org/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=150539 http://blog.laptopmag.com/exclusive-hands-on-with-olpcs-xo-r . . . I guess it's time to plug my Chronium OS memory card into the XO and see what happens. It's going to take more work with the Sony VAIO SuperSlim notebook, because I don't believe its USB ports are bootable. Chieh Cheng
