Don't Upgrade From Ubuntu 6.06 LTS to Ubuntu 8.04.1 with the Update ManagerBad mistake. I had wanted to fix the screen resolution on my MSi Wind U100 running Ubuntu 6.06 LTS. It was stuck at 800x600, whereas the netbook can support 1024x600. In addition, I wanted to install usb-creator, which isn't available in Ubuntu 6.06 LTS. I had to use the usb-creator to write the Ubuntu 9.10 Netbook Remix image to my memory card. So I used the Update Manager to upgrade Ubuntu 6.06 LTS to Ubuntu 8.04.1. I got a bunch of error messages during installation. But the installation was able to continue and finish. Four hours later, my system was upgraded. But I couldn't pull up any "Preferences" dialog boxes, nor any "Administration" dialog boxes. I thought maybe rebooting the netbook would help. I was wrong. Upon booting, I got the following error message: [ 13.511319] Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(0,0) Now what? Chieh Cheng
