Configuring XO Sugar for Home NetworkAs much as I like the idea of a mesh network, it is just not practical in the United States yet. Hopefully we will get there one day. For now, we still need to configure the XO laptop to get on our home network. The easiest way to do that is to add the following lines to /etc/rc.local with the super-user (su) account. # home network Remember to replace all 'x' with proper values. The above configuration sets up the notebook with a static IP on the "ifconfig" line. Even though the OLPC wiki claims that the ESS ID cannot contain spaces, it works just fine with spaces; this post ii written on the XO laptop connected to a ESS ID with spaces. The "gw" line is to specify the gateway (e.g. your gateway). Nameserver lines specifiess your gateway. Chieh Cheng
