Installing ksh on Ubuntu 5.1Can you believe it? The real AT&T version of the Korn shell (ksh) is not included with the Ubuntu 5.1 distribution, nor is it installable from the Synaptic Package Manager. A imitation pdksh is available but not completely compatible. Bummed, I look around the Internet and found The real AT&T version of the Korn shell as part of a Debian archive package. After downloading the Debian archive, I had to figure out how to install it. It seems that dpkg will work, so I issued "dpkg -i ksh_93q+93r-l_i386.deb" on the command-line. Unfortunately, the operating system responded with a "dpkg: requested operation requires superuser privilege". Ok, not to be disappointed, I issued the following command: sudo dpkg -i ksh_93q+93r-l_i386.deb After typing in my password, the Debian package manager proceeded to install the package. After only four lines of messages, it was done. I typed "ksh" on the command-line with my fingers crossed, and it worked! I got my ksh prompt. Chieh Cheng
