Reading the bookmark file generated by ViTO Sound Explorer 2005

Lately, I have been trying out a new audio note-taking program for the Pocket PC. The program that I am trying out is the ViTO Sound Explorer 2005. One of its nice features is the bookmark capability. It could place a mark anywhere in the audio stream so that you can go back to it later. I use this feature a lot, because I need to edit the sound files that I record on my PC later. Being able to mark the audio stream for retrieval later is handy on the road.

Normally, I would mark the audio stream and than transfer the note to my computer manually later. But I found out that the bookmark file generated by the ViTO Sound Explorer 2005 is a text file with HTML-like tagged content, such as shown below.

And I was quite excited that I can use this data without copying them again by hand. But then the position number doesn't seem to make sense. For example, the audio named "Space Mountain" shows its position as "1230434". What does this mean? The audio bookmark position shown in Sound Explorer 2005 is 1:51:60, which mean 1 minute and 51 seconds. I assume "60" is in milliseconds. If I were to translate 1:51:60 to milliseconds, I'd get 111060.

So I am still trying to decode the position value. But if you have an idea, please share it with me.

Well, I think I just figured it out. The position is recorded as cycles. Because the recorded wave file was recorded at 11025 Hz (or 11.025 KHz), dividing 1230434 by 11025 gives 111.60 seconds, or 1:51:60.

So, if you ever want to take advantage of Sound Explorer 2005's bookmark feature, you can use this calculator to find out where the bookmark is in seconds.
