Read Chinese? Tablet NeededThis past month, I've been running Android 2.1 and Android 2.2 on my HTC Touch phone. It's 2-3/4" display is perfect for me to take it to bed and read fables ("A Fable A Day" app) and fairy tales ("A Fairy Tale A Day" app) to my kids. And when I need to pass time on road trips, I'd read a free ebook from the Project Gutenberg library with the "Gutenberg eReader" app. But earlier tonight, I tried to read a classic Chinese fairy tale to my kids on this Android 2.2 phone and I find it to be very difficult on such a small display. Unlike English letters that are fairly simple with a few strokes, Each Chinese characters could have ten strokes or more. On such a small display, some of the strokes are merged together and makes the characters hard to read. On newer generation text that uses common words, that's not so bad, because you can read based on context. However, the classic Chinese fairy tale comes from ancient text. I already have to work extra hard at recognizing the uncommon words. With a tiny screen and merged strokes, it's quite a challenge to keep the passages moving for my children. I have decided to pick up a Pandigital Novel tomorrow and convert it into a Android tablet for my children. I am sure the 7" screen with 800x600 resolution will resolve the problem reading Chinese with my deteriorating eyes. Chieh Cheng
