Dropping Compaq iPAQ causes the need to reformat SD CardIn the middle of writing "The Adventure of Mr. Whip" in Pocket Word on my Compaq iPAQ H3955, I turned it off and left it on the table. Next thing I know, I swing around and my hand knocked it off to the ground. It landed on thin carpet and the SD Card and stylus popped out from the iPAQ. I immediately inserted the SD Card back into the PDA and turned it. Horrified, I saw the following message: "Storage Card Warning I chose "no", hoping to recover the card. I have some data stored on this SD Card and if the card is corrupted due to the drop, my data could be lost. I am quite surprised that just a drop could cause data corruption, considering that the iPAQ was powered off and that the flash memory in the SD Card is a solid-state memory with no moving parts. Has this happened to anyone before? Chieh Cheng Ok, so in the process of copying down the warning message shown in the last post, I accidentally pressed "yes"! My data is surely lost. How dumb of me . . . but the iPAQ showed this following message: "Storage Card Warning Again, I was horrified. It feels like I just jumped out of the pot into the fire, because I just commanded a format, which would erase all my data, and now the iPAQ seems to be indicating that the SD Card is not corrupt, but damaged! I am so shocked that the big heavy iPAQ wasn't damaged in the drop, but the light little SD Card got damaged. Miracle does happen. After I press "ok" to get rid of both warning messages, the content on the SD Card showed up. Amazing. I can't believe my eyes. All the files are intact. What dumb luck. Anyway, I think I will copy the data off the storage card, format it, and copy them back again. It's interesting that after displaying two warning messages that indicate operation failure, the device would start working correctly again. Go figure. Chieh Cheng same thing happened to me, though I didn't associate it with a drop till I read t is, also I never got that error msg, all my info is just gone, strage thing is that it sees the space is in use when I try to sync it in media player, but it can't see the files... wasted about 60% of my stotage space and I cantfigure out how to reformat the sd card to regain the space >< ne one know what to do? lol ima try just dropping it again chance
