Minecraft Server GUI Does Not Respond on AMD CPU

So I have been running Minecraft server 1.8.1 on various computers to test performance. One strange phenomenon is that the Minecraft server GUI does not respond on AMD CPU's (see screen shot below). It basically doesn't update. And when you click on it, Windows reports that it is "Not Responding" in the title bar.

Funny thing is that the server actually runs just fine. I can play in the server's Minecraft world. And the state is saved correctly on the server.

This problem doesn't occur on any computers with the Intel processor. But both of my notebook computers with the AMD processor has this problem. One of the notebook is the HP Pavilion Entertainment Notebook PC DV7-3160us, which has the AMD Turion(tm) II Ultra Dual-Core Mobile M620 (2.5 GHz) processer. The other notebook is the Acer Aspire One 722-BZ454 with the AMD C-60 APUwith Radeon(tm) HD Graphics (1.0 GHz).

I seem to recall seeing this problem when running Java GUI's on AMD processors. And Minecraft server is Java-based. Has anyone else experienced this problem before?

Ok, I just had another idea...

Both notebooks are acting as servers. So I am executing the Minecraft server through Remote Desktop. I have just physically walked over to the Acer Aspire One 722-BZ454 and have started on the laptop directly. Lo and behold, the Minecraft server runs and displays its GUI without any problem.

So the problem is that Java GUI's, when running on AMD CPU's, doesn't update and respond though a Remote Desktop connection; a strange problem. No wonder searching for "Java GUI doesn't display on AMD CPU" on Google yield no results.

I still like to get this problem fixed, because I perform server operations remotely. I definitely don't want to walk up to the server every time I need to look at Minecraft stats.

Ok. I finally figured out the problem... The solution is documented in "Java GUI Does Not Respond Over Remote Desktop on AMD CPU Server".

Unfortunately, the solution requires using the Java "-Dsun.java2d.d3d=false", which can't be done with Minecraft server Windows executable; at least I don't know how. So the next best option is to try running the JAR version of the Minecraft server on Windows.

Ok. Finally got a working solution for Minecraft server on Windows Remote Desktop server using a AMD processor. The solution is to use the minecraft_server.1.8.1.jar and bypassing the Direct3D pipeline. The command to execute the server is as follows:

java -Xmx1024M -Xms1024M -Dsun.java2d.d3d=false -jar minecraft_server.1.8.1.jar
