I played this mode with my girlfriend to complete the "Place Top 15 in Duos with a friend" in the Overtime challenges. I found that it is easy to complete the challenge by landing at the edge of the island. And just slowly traverse the island edge until the number of players dwindle down to 15 players. That guarantees placing top 15.
