F.E.A.R. - Invalid game assets.

I have just reinstalled F.E.A.R. in the past couple of days. With the recent free F.E.A.R. COMBAT buzz, my friends are all getting in on the multiplayer version of F.E.A.R. But after patching it to 1.07 and installing several co-op mods, FEAR won't let me into any multiplayer games. It kept giving me the error message:

invalid game assets.

Finally, I resolved the problem by messing around with the Default.archcfg file that is in the main FEAR directory. But not sure exactly what I did.

First I made a copy of Default.archcfg and called it "original Default.archcfg". Then I removed the read-only flag on Default.archcfg. Next, I modified Default.archcfg based on some thread I read on the web. I ran FEAR only to have it crash on me right away. So I deleted Default.archcfg. Then I renamed "original Default.archcfg" back to "Default.archcfg".

Now the game works great. Go figure!

It just did it again!

I had read on some web sites that the "Invalid game assets." message could be caused by a fragmented hard drive. So I ran the defragger this afternoon.

But tonight, I got the "Invalid game assets." message. Almost made me wish that I didn't bother defragging the drive.

So I performed the steps that I mentioned above. And by golly, it worked again! I don't know what's fixing it, maybe just moving the Default.archcfg from one disk sector to another fixes it.

Yah . . . I copied it, deleted the original file, and then rename the copy back to the original file name.

So far, every map I tried worked. Onlu Surface.arch00 from the co-op maps set do not work. The symptom is slightly different. With Surface.arch00, the map would load to 90% and then give me the "Invalid Game Assets." message. The fix I mentioned in this thread seems to only fix maps where you immediately get an "Invalid Game Assets." message when you try to join a server.

pessoal consegui arrumar os mapa sem te que fazer nada apenas cliquei com o botao direito no icone do F.E.A.R. Combat e la tem um icone com nome de FEARMP e abre esse icone e os mapas funcionan normalmente xD testem se funciona para voces ae

staff managed to get the map without doing anything that you just right-click on the icon of FEAR Combat and it has an icon with the name of this icon and opens FEARMP and normally function as "maps xD test if it works for y'all ae
