Counter-Strike: Source - CampaignMy brother and I have been looking for a cooperative multiplayer first person shooter (FPS) game that works in campaign mode for a long time. Unfortunately, it seems that most game companies aren't interested in making a FPS in such a manner. Instead, they rather concentrate on building a single-player campaign. Then add a multiplayer frag fest module on top so that you can compete with other real players online. These games don't allow you to cooperatively complete the campaign together. Counter-Strike: Source is done in the same manner, except it doesn't even have a single-player campaign mode. But I've found out that through clever configuration of the Source Dedicated Server, you can kind of emulate a campaign mode. In Counter-Strike: Source, that means you and your friends can go through each map, as you win, in sequence. Assuming you want an unbalanced team setup, where you and your friends are in outnumbered scenarios, you can set-up the unbalanced teams by following the instructions presented in "Counter-Strike: Source - Unbalanced Team. But if you want a balanced team, then you don't have to worry about it, because Counter-Strike: Source defaults to balanced team. Now you have to set the server up so that it doesn't change maps on you and your friends, while you guys are still trying to succeed at any given map. You can prevent the maps from changing by setting the following settings in your Source Dedicated Server configuration file (server.cfg): // campaign Now, you can play away at any map until your heart is content. Whenever you and your friends are satisfied beating that map, you guys are ready to move onto the next map. You can do that by setting "mp_winlimit 1" in the Source Dedicated Server Console (see picture below). Chieh Cheng When you set mp_winlimit to 1, the Source Dedicated Server will respond with "Changing maps...one team has won the specified number of rounds" and load a new map. The reason is because your team or the enemy team has already won at least a round. As soon as you issue the command, the map changes. And as soon as the new map loads, server.cfg is read again and mp_winlimit is set back to 0 for you to enjoy the map as long as you wish. Repeat this process for all the maps. When you and your friends successfully complete all of the maps, then you have successfully completed the campaign. Chieh Cheng
