problem with n50 on win7 / L4D

So i had no problems setting up the n50 on win7.. until i tried it in game (left for dead). the #8 button (middle bottom row) always brings up the main menu when pressed no matter what key is mapped to it...

Any suggestions/ideas???

That is the same way with me on Windows Vista. It just started doing it one day. Probably after I un-installed the Belkin driver. It also does the same in Total Game Control. So somehow Left 4 Dead sees that button as menu. I have mapped the other two buttons around it. But I found mapping the scroll wheel to be the best solution; it lets me crouch forever without holding down any buttons.

Hum,
Remember that our N50 is seen as a Game Controller, exactly as any GamePad or Joystick.
So, check if "Left 4 Dead" uses or not your N50 as a regular game controller. May be that the "menu" function is assigned to button 8 and should be reassigned.
Check also the order of yor game controllers in your Game controller.

For instance, you can play Trackmania, Aquanox, StarWars Racer, etc... with a N50 without my software (you won't have any shift level programming ability, that's it).
Most of all, I know that if I want to play one of this games with Nova suite, I have to check my controller settings within my game to be sure to avoid any conflict.
Pretty sure then that you need to do the same in Left for dead.

Anyway, for sure, it is not an issue of Nova Suite ;)

Thanks for chiming in, Wilfrid. That's what I suspected. Unfortunately, there is no way to remap the menu key in Left 4 Dead. But you've given me an idea . . . I'm wondering if the controller can be disabled in Left 4 Dead.

Since it seems to be (at last !) an exemplary support for this game, may be could you put a comment on the editor's forum of Left 4 Dead in order to speak about this issue if you are not able to disable the controller in this game.

By the way, same thing also for Crysis or UT2004 : I have to beware of the controller settings in the game in order to not have some surprises :)

Wich is funny with this "feature" is that you can mix some buttons of the N50 mapped with NOVA Suite with some others (4 directions for instance), mapped directly into the game :)

This is very powerfull.

Yes, L4D uses a gamepad if it finds one, and N50 is viewed as a gamepad.

On valve's forums, I saw this quote that may help you :

To get around the problem of the gamepad being used for the mouse/keyboard player, I used the following little program I found called JoyIDs, http://www.wingmanteam.com/latest_so...oyIDs_Utility:, which can switch around joystick IDs, however even on ID2 L4D detected it as the primary, so i found another program, PPJOY, http://ppjoy.bossstation.dnsalias.org/, which can be used to fake a virtual gamepad, which I put as ID1. It then worked perfectly everytime, no need for unplugging etc.

That could permit you to disable the N50 in L4D by putting it as ID2, just behind a fake virtual gamepad. :)
