More than one-way to mount the Yakima car rackI have a 2001 Subaru Impreza 2.5RS and a set of Yakima rack. The Yakima rack allows me to carry tools, snowboards, skies, and other things. Maybe one day I would carry bikes and kayaks on it. Yakima shows that the Q46 Clips are compatible with my car. On the instruction manual, it indicated configurations for three Impreza models: Coupe, Sedan, and Wagon. Each configuration differs in dimension and measurement. The Coupe configuration is for model year 1995 to 1998. The Sedan configuration is for model year 1993 to 1999. And the Wagon configuration is for model year 1993 to 1998. The funny thing is that U.S. Imprezas between 1993 and 2001 (2000 for oversea models) has the first generation (1G) chassis and body. Because I have a four door Impreza, I have been using the Sedan configuration for the past few years. In this configuration, the two round Yakima Crossbars are independent attachments to the car. For years, I have been carrying snowboards on my car rack. I have noticed that when the snowboards are attached, connecting the two Crossbars, the entire set-up seems stronger and more rigid. The Coupe configuration on the other hand has a longer and wider configuration. In addition, it uses the Yakima Q Stretch Kit, which makes the entire car rack a solid rectangle. This configuration is desirable to me, because I like a rigid set-up even when I'm carrying other equipment. Perhaps the Yakima engineers don't know that all Subaru Impreza Sedans and Coupes between 1993 and 2001 are 1G and have the same body shape. There are no physical difference between a 1G Impreza Coupe and a Sedan, other than the number of doors. The physical dimensions are exactly the same. So recently, I have been using the Coupe configuration on my sedan. Chieh Cheng
