Upgrading Memory on the Acer Aspire 3004WLMi NotebookWith the extra 256 MB 333 MHz DDR module from Apple/PC Compatibility Bliss, I decided to see what I could do with my wife's notebook. I bought her an Acer Aspire 3004WLMi Notebook recently at a very very good price. It came with a 15" LCD screen, 512 MB of RAM, and tons of hard drive space. So I don't know if I can make my wife any happier. I was afraid the notebook might have came with two memory slots and both filled by memory modules, like on my HP Pavilion DV1227US Entertainment Notebook Computer. But I decided to take her notebook apart anyway and see what's inside. I started by unscrewing and taking off the left panel on the bottom of the notebook, but it turned out to be the CPU, heat-sink, and fan bay. Unlike the HP notebook, the bottom of the Acer notebook isn't designated with component symbols (other than the hard drive bay). I put the panel back and tried the middle panel instead; it is the correct bay. Two screws close to the front of the computer (see photo below) sealed the bay. Unscrewing these two screws and popped off the panel. Attached Image: Chieh Cheng I found two memory slots under the cover. And only one slot is taken up by a single 512 MB memory module! An entire memory slot is empty (see photo below). Even better is that the Acer notebook uses the same type of memory that came out of my HP notebook. The extra 256 MB of RAM will work in this notebook just fine. Attached Image: Chieh Cheng After installing the extra piece of memory (see photo below), I replaced the cover and powered up the notebook. Windows XP booted up just fine, recognizing the extra 256 MB of RAM. My wife is happy that I made her computer better. I am happy that the extra piece of RAM didn't go to waste by sitting around on my desk. Chieh Cheng
